Ebison Eubery, 35 is a youth who is resident in Rupangwana Village under Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi. He is one of the 20 youthful farmers that were allocated land in the Rupangwana Irrigation Scheme when it was expanded under the Smallholder Irrigation Revitalisation Programme.

Narrating his participation in the scheme, Eubery said, “I’m one of the new farmers who were allocated plots in the scheme. I was given 0.2 hectares and cultivated tomatoes in the first year in 2022.We grew the Chibili variety which did well for us. We harvested 362 crates of tomatoes which we sold at US$15. We managed to get over US$ 5000.”

Eubery and his wife decided to invest their money in building a house for their family. He added, “We discussed with my wife and agreed to build a four roomed house. We have not completed the house as yet as we decided to diversify into broiler production in order to earn additional income. I currently work in the irrigation scheme while my wife looks after the chickens. All this came from the proceeds of the irrigation scheme which was rehabilitated by SIRP.
